Determining coupon dates for bonds

July 2nd, 2003, 4:17 pm

Hi to everybody, does anybody know where I could find a guide or general description of convensions about how bond coupon dates are determined - I mean which date - the maturity or issue one is taken as a basis for determining the bond coupon dates, etc. Are there any differences in this respect among various type of fixed income securities across different countries?Thank you all in advance.

Hm, a comprehensive answer would fill a 50 page book. There are difference from country to country and even intra-country from sector to sector (like govies vs. munis vs. corp). You will take the maturity of the issue and then work back on an annual or semi-annual basis, following the daycount ( Actual/Actual, Actual/365 (Fixed), Actual/360, 30/360, and 30E/360) and business day (following, modified following and preceding) rule.Hope this helps a bit.
