The simplest answer is that Mandelbrot was a mathematician, and, as such, he could not win the Nobel. He could have won the Fields Medal, but that is neither here nor there. Why didn't Cliff Taubes win the Fields Medal? I would have voted for him....Secondly, a lot of areas could be of more use in finance...from my favorites...Riemannian Geometry, Lie Groups, Homogeneous Spaces, etc...to Cellular Automata, to Game Theory, to Linguistics, to FDAX theory...nevertheless, these fields are only sporadically used by some secretive traders and madmen like me...how's that, Acid Math Boy?
