How to make a good impression at Work

May 21st, 2012, 8:09 am

Everyone seems to work hard these days. So how to create a impression of being special.1.) Watch facebook, amazon when no one is watching at your monitor.2.) Keep a serious face as if you have to move the mountains.3.) Move across the floor and network.Any tips, would be welcome.

That's how Dexter does it and from personal experience I can say it's working. If you want to appear productive then incremental, quick, situation-specific work is a smart move.

Set your phone to vibrate every 15 mins and tie it to your mouse before you go to bed. That will ensure that you will stay "Green" on every communicator used in your office (MS Communicator where I used to work). You are green 24/7. People will even feel guilty about pinging you since you must be tired. If they do, you will not respond, just apologize next day for not responding as you stepped out to the bathroom and you have 5 other pings to respond you which were related to putting out fires. That might get you brownie points for "being nice" too.

Why would you not respond? You: Ummm, I tied like my cellphone on the mouse you know so that it seems I'm on ummm.

One person I know did some variant of this as she was green 24/7 did it in in full knowledge of our boss who wanted to promote her and whatever. It was quite comic, the boss would ping me and ask "What are you working on?" . After a brief conversation he would go "I see XXX is green too, looks like she is working late". He was trying to pretend that he really believes she works by trying to sound honest to me. I never asked, it was his guilty conscience. Last I heard she got promoted and she left. He was left holding his junk.

Assuming that means I worked where you work is like the 12 year old me assuming that because the girl I had a crush on shared my birthday means that god meant us to be together.
