Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.And those who do learn from history are also doomed to repeat it.

I mean first edition of this book dates back from 1995 or something (if I'm not mistaking).

October 5 1968 when peaceful civil rights demonstrators were attacked by the Royal Ulster Constabulary and the infamous B Specials.

The Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association (NICRA) called for wide-ranging reforms: it demanded equal voting rights in local government elections; a fairer system for the allocation of public housing; an end to 'gerrymandering' (the manipulation of electoral boundaries to give one community an electoral advantage); an end to discrimination in employment; the disbandment of the 'B-Specials' (an all-Protestant auxiliary police force); and the repeal of the Special Powers Act (which allowed for internment of suspects without trial).

The rest is history ..

And the State (paratroopers), UVF and UDA. The bombings in Dublin and Monaghan in 1974 were almost surely state-sponsored.

Get the facts right.

A little history update..

One of my maths lecturers at TCD, the late Dr. Trevor West (a Southern Protestant and Senator) used to regularly visit the leader of UVF while in prison. GS wanted peace since 1973 because he realised that violence was pointless. They kept him in prison for years but the establishment didn't want to let him out. Many wanted the war to carry on. It is discussed in the book about TTW "The Bold Collegian". GS saw through all the BS propaganda.

And the late (Catholic) Cardinal O'Fiaich used to visit GS in prison.

Now you know a little more.

IRA was by far the largest killer. And they liked killing their own quite a lot. Strange.
I can see you are good at reading tables of numbers. Well done.
You have missed the whole point of the 50th anniversary of the civil rights parade in 1968. At that stage the IRA was dormant.

You missed the 60s and the worldwide movements taking place in that decennium.
