Relocating to the UK. Please help.

<t>i would, um, take what they say on the bank websites with a li'l pinch of salt. you will have to be waaaaaaay better than a local candidate to make it worth their while if you require a visa. this is coming from the perspective of someone who has applied for jobs abroad and has recruited people f...

Compensation versus "The Work"

i would probably work for half of what i get now for the sake of being in a specific (geographical) area. if you hate where you live, money is pretty much irrelevant.

F1 in Central London

only in london would it be considered a good idea to shut off much of the center of the city (such as there is a discernible center to hell) for much of the day for the sake of some poxy cars. totally sums up what the priorities are here. and did they pay the congestion charge?

fundamental analysis for FI futures

any recommendations for books on fundamental analysis of FI futures? not bond pricing per se, there's plenty on that... i almost want something like "The Economist Guide to Economic Indicators Making Sense of Economics" but aimed for financial market practitioners.

Trading Systems and Methods (Wiley Trading Advantage Series)

<t>the elder book is excellent. quite underrated. does focus more on psychology, but i think this is more important than your system, personally. you can, of course, have a great system and no discipline to implement it, in which case it's useless. finding a working methodology is probably easier th...

End of the open outcry system in US as Eurex arrives?

<t>i disagree. locals are a big part of eurex, like it or not. they keep the market liquid. there was a story in the business last year saying that 40% of eurex volume is from london. i am guessing that a lot of that is locals. when will bor move to eurex? good question... a repeat of the "takin' th...

End of the open outcry system in US as Eurex arrives?

eurex are being very cagey about all of this, i tried to get info out of them at FOW in london recently. the whole thing is a big open secret. apparently early '04 for the 10yr (yay!), no comment on what other products they'll offer.

where to get quote of those macro-derivatives like options for GDP or consumption growth?

they ought to have this kind of thing on betfair (i.e. the ability to bet on economic numbers), though they don't seem to (yet) as it seems to be populated by those more interested in sport.

stock market reaction to economic events

<t>according to goldman sachs, ISM has moved the equity, fixed income and FX markets the most over the last 6mo. this was quoted on bloomy, so don't be givin' me grief if you're a trader and you disagree. these things go in and out of fashion. people used to laugh at empire state manufacturing, now ...

futures commissions

aye, but clearing is a much bigger proportion of the amount you quoted. exchange fees are what, 20eurocents vs. 40 on the clearing? hell, you can almost get paid to trade certain products by the exchange (back month 'bor on liffe for example).

1998 all over again?

<t>i get the impression that "the market" is preeeeetty long mortgages, corporate credit, and emerging market debt. and that it's hedged, at least in part, by being short treasuries. doesn't that leave us pretty vulnerable to a flight to quality resulting from some kind of exogenous shock? seems lik...
