Risk Management in London vs Equity Research in Frankfurt

<t>I have two offers from BB banks in Europe. One of them is a risk management role, the mathematically sophisticated kind in London, while the other is equity research in Frankfurt. Does London give me better career options even though I will be in RM? Or I should just follow my passion and get som...

Theoretical Physics Ph.D. looking to get into the Quant business

This is very sad, no one has any idea about your contribution to paper, whether you wrote it or just made some figures... I know many Romanians, they were smart enough to pay $140 and go to Cornell and now have well paying jobs. Once in the U.S. transferring is not that hard either.

Theoretical Physics Ph.D. looking to get into the Quant business

<t>No offence but not having enough money for both GRE and TOELF as a reason for not going to a top school is ricidulous. Ruin your life for a few bucks? I don't know why e-prints would count as publications, particularly when they are 4 years old? I see this kind of resume inflation too often. I ca...

Theoretical Physics Ph.D. looking to get into the Quant business

<t>This is typical, the exact same thing happened to me. I got 0 interviews by posting my resume on websites. Actually, some headunters called me, asked about my background and sent every crappy IT job my way. However, in the end, I got pretty good job offers (through different channels, by contacti...

from Microsoft to Morgan Stanley?

<t>I am not using my Ph.D. for anything here, that why I am leaving. I graduated at the height of the crisis, last spring and was happy to find a job (I did not accept my postoc offers, because of money issues). It still was a useful experience and I respect people in the industry more than ever bef...

<t>Another boring career decision topic. I would appreciate your feedback. Both offers are in the same city.Morgan: Advantages: Seems to be a true quant position, better brand name. More opportunities for networking, which is beneficial on the long run. Better bonus potential.Disadvantages: Putting u...

Career decision: Microsoft vs Top investment Bank

<t>Farmer I really appreciate your brutal honesty life sucks I know, particularly when someone chooses physics. Actually, there are good jobs in physics, but most of them are not open to internationals. Many of my american classmates got one of these jobs with decent salaries ~90k (Lincoln Lab. etc....

Career decision: Microsoft vs Top investment Bank

<t>I really appreciate your replies, I need to regain my focus and optimism again. I have only one kid and I know how important security can be in this economy. I also have to admit that the company is very friendly and accommodating, I received royal treatment all the way and the work hours are als...

Career decision: Microsoft vs Top investment Bank

I chose Microsoft and I am deeply depressed about the decision. I hate the job I cannot believe how stupid I am, I am doomed for life. Desperately looking for a way out, I am definitely not the engineering type. Chaotic and incredibly stupid.
